Charlene is an accomplished businesswoman. After successful careers at Levi Strauss & Co. and Wells Fargo Bank, she founded her own company. For over 15 years, she led multiple strategy and creative teams for hundreds of business clients worldwide, to achieve extraordinary business results. As a child of Holocaust survivors, Charlene is deeply committed to individuals and organizations preparing the next generation everywhere for a life of personal commitment and responsibility.

Charlene committed herself long ago to being a lifelong student. Making this film with the help of award-winning experts, she has earned her a second advanced degree, now in filmmaking, through this humbling and powerful experience.

Vivian Kleiman, Creative Producer

Vivian Kleiman

Vivian is a veteran documentary filmmaker known for tackling challenging subjects and filmic approaches. Her work received the George Foster Peabody Award, Organization of American Historians’ Erik Barnouw Award, International Documentary Association’s Outstanding Achievement Award, and National Emmy Award Nomination for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Research. She holds the distinctive record as producer or executive producer of eight co-productions with the Independent Television Service (ITVS), created by the U.S. Congress to produce programs by independent filmmakers for national public television. For nine years,Vivian taught at Stanford University’s Graduate Program in Documentary Film Production. Vivian was Executive Producer of the 2016 Oscar nominated Last Day of Freedom.

Wendy Slick

Wendy is an experienced film director, producer and editor. Wendy’s creative visual style and comfort with “riding the edge” was featured in Ripe for Change, a PBS program in the California Dreaming series. As a documentary filmmaker, Wendy’s keen eye and insatiable curiosity are the driving force in all her filmmaking work. Her commitment to finding the truth that lurks beneath the surface — to help real people tell their true stories — has inspired exceptionally crafted work. She brings enormous creativity; an edgier approach and a fresh new look into the editing room.

Drew Eckmann, Director of Photography

Drew Eckmann

Drew brings more than 15 years of experience in film production, including work with camera, sound and as crew in commercials, short subjects TV and film. His credits include Nova PBS, National Geographic and Discovery Channel, Frontline, Fox sports documentary division, HBO Real Sports and HBO documentary, The Big Picture.

Michael Berenbaum

Michael Berenbaum is a writer, lecturer and teacher consultant in the conceptual development of museums and historical films. He is director of the Sigi Ziering Institute: Exploring the Ethical and Religious Implications of the Holocaust at the American Jewish University. He is former President and Chief Executive Officer of Steven Spielberg’s Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation, Deputy Director of the President’s Commission on the Holocaust, and Project Director of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum; and oversaw its creation. He is the author and editor of 20 books, scores of scholarly articles and hundreds of journalistic pieces.

Menachem Creditor

Founder and Co-Chair of Rabbis Against Gun Violence, Menachem is a published author, musician, teacher and activist who has spent time working locally and in Ghana, and as a Trustee of American Jewish World Service (AJWS), and in the White House to amplify the prophetic Jewish voice in the world. Named by Newsweek as one of the 50 most influential rabbis in America, he is a regular contributor to The Huffington Post and The Times of Israel. Among his many books, Creditor edited and published a collection of rabbinic voices as “Peace in Our Cities: Rabbis Against Gun Violence,” which has been distributed by interfaith organizations around the United States.He serves as the spiritual leader of Congregation Netivot Shalom in Berkeley, CA.

Michael McBride

Michael is a national leader working to restore calm while achieving justice, through his work with the police and the community in Ferguson, Missouri and in other cities across the country. Pastor Michael is currently the Director for the national Lifelines to Healing Campaign with the PICO National Network, a campaign that is committed to addressing gun violence and mass incarceration of young people of color. He is deeply committed to empowering urban communities, families and youth, Michael is a graduate of Duke University’s Divinity School, and holds a Master of Divinity Degree with an emphasis in Ethics and Public Policy.

Peter Dale Scott

Peter is the co-founder of the Peace and Conflict Studies Program at the University of California, Berkeley. He is a former Canadian diplomat and English professor at the University of California, Berkeley, a writer, poet and history researcher. His life focus is on the idea that “building international public opinion, when it becomes powerful enough, will become the most effective restraint to the excesses and follies of particular governments.”

Arthur Shostak Ph.D.

American sociologist and futurist; Arthur is a former professor of sociology at Drexel University, where he taught the effects of technology, industrial and urban sociology, and race and ethnic relations. A prolific author of numerous books and articles, he writes on a wide range of topics, including childhood and adolescent education, war and peace. His latest book, which will be published in early 2017, focuses on stealth altruism, or the courageous acts of kindness shown to others and received by Jewish prisoners in the concentration camps of the Holocaust in an effort to resist the Nazis and preserve human life.

Susan Wengraf

Susan is an experienced, award-winning documentary filmmaker, best known for her film Love It Like A Fool, about the late Berkeley songwriter and singer Malvina Reynolds. Susan acted as visuals editor for the Emma Goldman Papers at the University of California, Berkeley, which recently published the first two volumes of Emma Goldman, a Documentary History of the American Years. Currently, Susan is a Berkeley City Council member and founding Co-Chair of the Berkeley Annual Holocaust Remembrance Commemoration.
